On Thursday, May 14 the City of Champaign hosted two Bike to Work Day stations, one in Downtown Champaign and one at the Public Works Department. Hundreds of residents checked in at nine stations around Champaign-Urbana, enjoying food and coffee before continuing on to work.
Planning and Development staff partnered with Hyatt Place to welcome cyclists to the Downtown Champaign station, while local bike shop Neutral Cycle was on hand to offer free tuneups to any participant who wanted one.
In the evening, Planning and Development staff hosted a public meeting to share information about the bike lanes that will be installed on Fox Drive and Devonshire Drive this summer. Attendees were generally happy with the design of these bike lanes, and shared feedback with staff about other desired infrastructure improvements that will shape future bicycle planning.
