Who: Illinois Department of Transportation and the Champaign Police Department
What: From December 19, 2014 – January 4, 2015, IDOT supported enforcement to remind motorists to buckle up during the merged Click It or Ticket/Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over mobilizations. The Champaign
Police Department joined other state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois to reduce highway fatalities by cracking down on unbuckled motorists.
During the mobilization, the Champaign Police Department issued citations for the following offenses:
• 5 seat belt violations
• 2 cell phone violations
• 2 uninsured motorists
• 1 driving while license revoked
• 1 speeding citation
• 3 citations for various other offenses
The annual Click It or Ticket mobilization may be over in Champaign but that is no excuse to stop using your seat belt. “The Champaign Police Department cannot stress enough the significance of wearing your seat belt and the impact it has on reducing injuries and fatalities in automobile accidents. Parents should lead by example and buckle up, encouraging compliance, and leading to safer roadways,” says Sgt. Geoff Coon.
