Council Chambers Remodeling & CGTV Upgrades

Champaign’s City Council Chambers will be closed to the public August 13-31 for construction and remodeling. To ensure the comfort and safety of staff and visitors, the August 19 and 26 Council meetings have been canceled, and other public meetings will be held in alternate locations.

The remodeling includes replacement of all audio-visual equipment, ceiling tile replacement, and patching and painting the walls. In addition, the AV control room is being remodeled with new paint and carpet.

In association with this work, all the television production and telecast equipment used to produce meeting coverage and operate Champaign Government Television (CGTV) will also be replaced. All the video equipment is being upgraded to widescreen, high-definition (HD) equipment, including cameras, monitors, video projectors, and CGTV’s control and automation systems.

The audio-visual upgrades are scheduled to be completed on September 5. Once complete, CGTV programming will be available online in HD, including CGTV’s live-stream and on-demand videos. Comcast and U-verse customers, however, will continue to receive CGTV in standard definition, as both companies declined the City’s request for an HD channel.

Staff from the Information Technologies Department, Public Works’ Building Services, and the City Manager’s Office are cooperatively managing this project.
