Look Up! Program

Deputy Fire Marshals Janet Maupin and Randy Smith, Property Maintenance Inspector Tim Spear, and Summer Youth Employment Interns Tylon Turner and Olivia Dew met with representatives from the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM). The representatives from the OSFM will be attending the Fire Factor academy on September 27, 2014 to deliver two proclamations. The first proclamation is to declare September Campus Fire Safety Month in Illinois. The second proclamation is for the Look Up! Program that will be canvassing student housing later in the day.

The Look Up! Program is in honor of Tanner Osbourn who was lost in a fire in off campus housing in Chicago in 2005. Tanner’s mother Kathleen Moritz will be at the Fire Factor Academy for the proclamation and will participate in the canvassing of off campus student housing. The plan is for volunteers to canvass off campus student housing on September 27, 2014 from 2-5 pm. The volunteers will pass out door hangers in areas of Champaign and Urbana that are near the University of Illinois campus. The door hangers will have information about making sure that the residences have working smoke alarms in place. Smoke alarms will be made available to students living in residences that do not have working smoke alarms in place. More information about the Look Up! Program can be found here: http://www.sfm.illinois.gov/public/PubEdLookupProgram.aspx
