Starting Thursday, July 31, 2014, weather permitting, Duce Construction is anticipating the start of construction activities related to new sidewalk and pedestrian crossing improvements as part of a Federally funded Safe Routes to School Project.
The project includes improvements to the school crossing of Neil Street at Eureka, consisting of a new crossing sidewalk ramps on the south leg of the intersection, a pedestrian refuge median and new school zone signage on Neil Street in advance of the crossing.
The project will also construct new sidewalk along Eureka Street between Neil Street and Walnut Street and along the west side of Neil Street between Edgebrook Drive and Kenyon Road.
The $183,758 project is funded through a Federal Safe Routes to School grant the City received in 2012.
All streets will remain open to traffic but periodic lane closures will be necessary to complete the work. The City of Champaign apologizes for any inconveniences caused by the construction work and thanks the public for their patience and cooperation during the project.
