City of Champaign Announces Deputy City Manager Appointment
Matthew Roeschley to Begin June 30th

Champaign, IL – City Manager Dorothy Ann David announced this morning that Matthew Roeschley, currently an Assistant City Attorney at the City of Champaign, has been appointed Deputy City Manager effective June 30, 2014.

Mr. Roeschley has been employed by the City of Champaign as an Assistant City Attorney since December 2011.  In that capacity, he has led the City’s efforts in labor relations and collective bargaining, served as the City’s prosecutor for municipal ordinance violations, and provided legal counsel to City departments on matters ranging from personnel matters and employee discipline to public procurement processes and purchasing contracts.  Prior to his employment with the City of Champaign, Mr. Roeschley represented local government agencies as an attorney in private practice, and later represented public sector employees in labor and employment matters.  He has a Bachelor of Arts in History and Writing from Anderson University and a Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois University College of Law.

“Matthew is a very confident, dedicated leader, who is highly accountable, ethical and well respected in the organization and amongst his peers,” says City Manager David.  “He has a breadth of knowledge in municipal government.  His strong background in the law, labor relations and intergovernmental affairs will be an asset to the City Manager’s Office.  During his time with the City organization he has demonstrated his commitment to public service and our mission to serve the community.”

Roeschley will join Deputy City Manager Joan Walls in supporting the City Manager in the daily administration of City government, serving as the Acting City Manager in the City Manager’s absence, and assisting in accomplishing the City’s vision and goals which are set by the City Council.  The Deputy City Managers also coordinate and evaluate the operations of assigned City Departments.  Roeschley will serve as the City Manager’s liaison to the Human Resources, Fire, Public Works, Planning and Development, and Legal Departments.

“I am thrilled to take on this new role with the City of Champaign.  I relish the opportunity to serve as part of the City’s leadership team and to work in pursuit of the City Council’s goals and the overall best interests of the residents of this City.  This is a top-notch organization in a great community and I am proud to belong to both,” says Mr. Roeschley.

Roeschley was selected to fill this role, which was vacated by the retirement of Craig Rost in April 2014.  His salary will be $117,130.00 per year.
