Police Make Arrests in Rural King Weapons Burglaries

On March 3, 2014, the detectives from the Champaign Police Department Investigations Unit arrested Jailyne A. Roberts, 18, and Joseph W. Tate, 19, both of Champaign for burglary. Arrest warrants had been obtained for both Roberts and Tate who are being held at the Champaign County Jail on $500,000 bond. 

The Rural King was burglarized during the early morning hours of August 25 and September 3, 2013. During these burglaries Roberts and Tate are suspected of forcing entry into the business and removing 24 handguns and one rifle. 

As of today, seven of the handguns have been recovered. Police have also learned that the stolen rifle may have been sold to an individual who was unaware at that time that the rifle was stolen. This individual is described as a white male who did possess a valid FOID. Police are seeking information and cooperation regarding this individual who may have purchased a CMMG .22 caliber rifle.
