CFD Fire Information Report
Narrative: Champaign and Urbana Fire Departments responded to a report of smoke & flames in room 657 of Sherman Hall. Fire crews were approached by the occupant of the fire room, who gave direction to room 655. There was light smoke in the common hall of the 6th floor, and heavy smoke in the fire room, where the sprinkler system had kept the fire controlled. Fire crews used a water extinguisher to fully extinguish the fire. Other crews searched and ventilated the building. Students were evacuated from the 13-story north wing of the building, and were directed to the low-rise south wing and lobby. University of Illinois officials were on scene quickly to address student and building needs. There were no injuries.
