Changes in Disability Parking at Meters

Effective January 1, 2014 the City will begin enforcing the new State of Illinois Law concerning meter parking for vehicles displaying a disabled placard. Vehicles displaying the new Secretary of State issued yellow and grey striped placard will not have to pay parking meters. Placard holders with the standard blue placard will be required to pay parking meters.

People displaying any parking placard will still be able to park at any non-metered space without charge including the Hill Street Parking Deck, City parking lots that have non-metered parking for persons with disabilities, and privately owned parking for persons with disabilities.

During the month of January 2014, parking enforcement will issue warning tickets to first time violators to ensure that they are aware of the change in State law. However, all placard holders should have been notified of these changes by the Secretary of State.
