FOIA – Freedom of Information Act Request
The Champaign Police Department provides access to its public records in accordance with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act [5 ILCS 140]. Under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), citizens are entitled to review and obtain copies of records, unless there is an exemption in the statute that protects those records from disclosure.
Individuals may make a FOIA request to Police for such things as an accident report, copy of a police report, administrative inquiries, etc. Response to FOIA requests are provided within five business days after receipt of the completed request form. In the event we cannot respond to the request within five days, a notice will be sent to the requester explaining the need for an extension.

- There is no fee for up to 50 pages of standard paper copies. After 50 pages, there is a $0.15/page charge. CD or DVD copies are $1.00. Payments may be made via cash or check only.
- There is a fee of $5 for each accident report requested.
Note: Dispatch tickets must be requested through METCAD 9-1-1.
