Commercial and Multi-Family Permit Plan Review Process
Commercial & Multi-Family permits are processed simultaneously by three City departments in order to make the process more efficient. When a building permit application is submitted to the Building Safety Division at the Champaign Fire Department, it is separated into its component parts and routed to whichever individual reviewers that need to review the particular application. The plans and review process are constantly tracked by permitting software. The applicant starts and finishes the permit process at the same location. All departments welcome the chance to review particular portions of applications prior to their formal submission in order to make the permitting process proceed smoothly.
New and addition building permit fees are based on the Permit Fee Schedule. The plan review fee is based on the building volume. There is a 1.5 multiplier for MEP reviews and certain types of permits.
Alteration building permit fees are $6 per $1,000 of construction costs. The plan review fee is .005 x construction costs for alterations over $20,000. Construction costs do not include MEP costs.
See links below for current permit fees and Permit Fee Schedule.
Permit fees are nonrefundable.
No fee is required with the building permit application. Building Safety will calculate the fee during the plan review process. Permit fees are due when the permit is issued. Current Fees and Permit Fee Schedule are also available at the Building Safety office.
Required inspections are noted on the permit.
We request 24 hours notice to schedule inspections.
