Operations Division

Operations Division personnel operate from six stations with six engines, two trucks, one heavy rescue unit, and one incident command vehicle. Additionally, CFD responds to Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) emergencies within the City of Champaign and a 50-mile radius of Champaign through the Illinois Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Division 28.

CFD has mutual or automatic aid agreements with all 25 fire departments (both career and volunteer) within Champaign County. In 1998, CFD entered into a joint intergovernmental agreement with the University of Illinois (U of I) and Urbana Fire and Rescue Services (UFRS) to provide emergency response on the University of Illinois campus. CFD and UFRS are jointly responsible for fire, HAZMAT, emergency medical and specialized technical rescue responses to U of I.

This division ensures a fire-safe environment for citizens and employees by minimizing the loss of life and property and trauma impact through effective and innovative emergency response programs. This includes compliance with state and federal regulations pertaining to the storage, use and handling of hazardous materials. The operations division participates in the delivery of a wide range of public fire education programs throughout the community.
