The Mahomet Aquifer is a vital source of water for hundreds of thousands of residents in Central Illinois.  This sole source designation from the USEPA is a significant step forward because it positively impacts the review that the U.S. EPA places on federally funded projects that may contaminate the Aquifer. A Sole Source Aquifer designation by the U.S. EPA would also provide an invaluable educational tool, informing residents, businesses and organization who rely on the Mahomet Aquifer for their water just how vital this unique groundwater resource is to Central Illinois.
