The Champaign City Government 101 Academy will answer all these questions and more. In addition to learning about the organization and operation of the City of Champaign, you will boost your civic engagement capacity and become an active participant in your local government and the community.

What Will I Learn?

The Academy consist of 12 classes. Each class will introduce you to a new City department, including: City Council/City Manager’s Office, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technologies, Legal, Planning and Development, Public Works, Neighborhood Services METCAD 9-1-1, Police, Fire, and Library.  After attending the Academy, participants will have a better understanding of the intricacies of operating a municipal government and what it takes to support Champaign’s high quality, essential public services.

When Is the Academy?

Classes will meet in the fall of 2017.  The 2017 class schedule will be published once those dates have been set.

Seating is limited, and participants must register for and attend all classes.  The Academy will meet at various locations and provide participants the chance to see several different City facilities.   Registered participants will receive a schedule of meeting locations.

What is the Cost?

The Champaign City Government 101 Academy is free and open to Champaign residents 16 and older.
