Structure Fire – 214 Charles St.

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 214 Charles St., February 17, 2019, at 5:13 a.m.  This fire was upgraded to a second-alarm and was extinguished by 6:28 a.m.

Firefighters responded to this two-story converted home after receiving the report that there was a fire in the bathroom ceiling.  Once on the scene, crews reported smoke coming from the attic of this two-unit rental home.  Crews deployed multiple handlines and extinguished the fire found in the attic and bathroom of the home.  Additional Champaign Fire Department and Urbana Fire Department units responded to the home once the second-alarm was struck.

Investigators from the Champaign Fire Department were assisted in their investigation by the Champaign Police Department and Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.  The cause of this fire has been determined as incendiary.  Two firefighters received minor injuries.  One firefighter was treated on scene and a second was transported by ambulance for evaluation.  There were no civilian injuries reported.
