Champaign Police Department announces Super Bowl weekend enforcement results

The Champaign Police Department announces they issued the following citations during the recent Super Bowl crackdown:

  • 10 seat belt citations
  • 7 cell phone citations
  • 3 speeding citations
  • 2 insurance citations
  • 1 reckless driving arrest

 

In addition, officers arrested 2 other subjects for outstanding warrants and another subject for resisting a peace officer, as a result of traffic stops related to the detail.

The Super Bowl weekend Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket enforcement effort ran from Friday, Feb. 1, through the early morning hours of Monday, Feb. 4, to keep impaired drivers off the roads and ensure more people buckle up for safety.

The recent law enforcement campaign was made possible by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation as part of the statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns.
