With Financial Closing Complete, Bristol Place Construction Ramping Up. Announcing Contracting and Employment Opportunities

The City of Champaign is pleased to announce that the financial closing of the Bristol Place Residences finished on November 8, 2018.  With the time-consuming work related to the closing completed, construction is now on track for an early 2020 completion.  The City is now focused on the significant economic impact this project will provide for our community. The next step is to award nearly $12 million of construction contracts, including building 64 single-family homes and 26 townhome units.

The Bristol Place redevelopment project is a public-private partnership including the City of Champaign, the Housing Authority of Champaign County, and developer AHDVS, LLC. AHDVS is an Illinois-based, African American-owned development firm specializing in the successful implementation of affordable housing projects.  These three entities entered into the Bristol Place Master Development Agreement in 2017, which outlines the goals of this project.

The Master Development Agreement includes a goal for the developer to award 30% of the construction contracts to qualified local minority, women, disadvantaged and/or veteran business enterprises. The agreement also requires the development team to ensure at least ten new local hires from the community, with preference given to Bristol Place residents that were displaced by this redevelopment.

The development team is actively seeking local businesses and residents interested in working on this transformative project. There are several opportunities for local businesses to participate, including but not limited to: finished carpentry, painting, lawncare, and final cleaning prior to occupancy.  Local residents are also encouraged to apply for employment opportunities related to the project, including specialized and general construction, as well as other jobs related to the redevelopment. Informational workshops promoting contractor and employment opportunities will be held in mid-December 2018.

Local businesses and residents interested in learning more about contracting and employment opportunities are encouraged to contact Dave Shellhamer with Carlson Construction at 815-531-3400 or [email protected].
