Police Seek Assistance in Shooting Investigation

On Saturday, November 24, 2018, at approximately 8:07 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 1700 block of West John Street after receiving reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers located evidence of a shooting.  A short time later, a 25-year-old male arrived at a local hospital with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.  The victim, who had been transported in a privately-owned vehicle, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Champaign Police processed evidence from the scene and are actively working to identify the circumstances leading up to the incident.  Preliminary information suggests this was not a random act.  There is no suspect information available at this time.

Champaign Police reminds citizens that information submitted to Crime Stoppers is completely anonymous. Calls are routed to a third-party national call center that receives your information, completes a tips information form, and then passes the information to the appropriate law enforcement agency. Caller ID tracking is not utilized by Crime Stoppers and conversations are not recorded.

Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for this crime.
