UPDATE: Police Make Arrest in Nov. 25, 2017, Homicide Investigation

On November 25, 2017, at approximately 4:10 a.m., Champaign Police Officers responded to the 2500 block of W. Springfield Ave. after receiving a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, police found 28-year-old Martrell Johnson of Champaign, Illinois, had sustained a gunshot wound.  Johnson was transported to an area hospital, where he would later succumb to his injuries.

On November 27, 2017, following police investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for 29-year-old Travis Marshall (who has since turned 30) of Champaign, Illinois, on charges for Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon in connection with the death of Johnson. Bond on the warrant was set at $1,000,000.

On July 26, 2018, at approximately 1:40 p.m., Champaign Police Detectives with assistance from the US Marshals Service located Marshall in the 1500 block of Garden Hills. Marshall was arrested and taken into custody without incident.

This morning, the Champaign County State’s Attorney Office additionally charged Marshall with three counts of First Degree Murder in connection with the death of Johnson. Marshall is scheduled to be arraigned in court on all charges later today.
