PWD presents at the 2017 ILGISA Conference

On October 4th, Public Works Geographic Information System (GIS) Technician Brandon Haist gave a presentation at the Illinois GIS Association’s 2017 Annual Conference in Normal, Illinois. The event brings together GIS professionals and industry representatives from across the region to discuss GIS technology. This year’s conference had a theme of “Mapping Our Future” and was held in the Bloomington-Normal Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. Brandon’s presentation titled “Tracking a Greener Future: Origins and Maintenance of Champaign IL’s City-Owned Trees Inventory” highlighted the successful team effort of Public Works Forestry and GIS staff in keeping a living asset inventory updated. The talk also discussed methods and benefits of tracking tree data and the many ways Forestry has utilized GIS reports and field mapping to guide decision making. GIS tree data and related webmaps have been popular for staff and public use.
