Police Investigate Overnight Shooting 

This morning, at approximately 12:45 AM, Champaign Police responded to the area of S. First St. and E. Armory Ave. for reports of gunfire. Upon arrival to the scene, police located a 21-year-old male victim from Danville suffering from serious gunshot wounds. Officers immediately provided on-scene medical care with tourniquet application, and the victim was transported to an area hospital for life-threatening injuries.

According to reports, the victim had been at a party in the 1100 Block of S. Second St. and was walking back to his vehicle with friends when shots were fired. Preliminary information suggests that this was not a random act and that the victim was the intended target. No suspect information is available at this time.

Police are actively investigating this incident and encourage anyone who was in the nearby area at the time of the shooting to call the Champaign Police Investigations Division at (217) 351-4545 or Champaign County Crime Stoppers at (217) 373-8477. Detectives will arrange to speak privately with anyone who has information.
