Residential Fire – 505 S. Lynn Street

The Champaign Fire Department responded to the report of smoke coming from behind a refrigerator at 505 S. Lynn Street, Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 7:41 p.m.  Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews found smoke and fire within the home and upgraded this to a working fire.

A resident discovered smoke coming from behind the refrigerator, evacuated the home and called 9-1-1.  Firefighters arrived on the scene and deployed a single hose line to quickly extinguish the fire originating from the basement. 

Occupants of the home have been displaced because of this fire. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.  The cause of the fire remains undetermined as investigators continue their scene examination.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan.  Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
