The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 1302 N. Mattis Ave., Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 3:04 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews found a fire on the exterior of the home that was beginning to extend inside.
A neighbor noticed the fire on the exterior of the home and called 9-1-1. Firefighters arrived on the scene and deployed a single hose line to quickly extinguish the fire.
The resident was not home at the time of the fire. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported. The cause of the fire has been attributed to an improperly disposed cigarette. The resident has been displaced because of the fire.
