Residential Fire – 714 West Vine Street

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 714 West Vine Street, Monday, April 30, 2018, at 5:43 a.m.  Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews found heavy smoke coming from the attic of the home.  Suppression efforts began immediately.

A neighbor noticed smoke coming from the attic of the vacant home and called 911.  Firefighters arrived on the scene and deployed hose lines into the residence to quickly extinguish the fire originating from the basement.  There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined as investigators continue their scene examination. 

The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan.  Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
