UPDATE: Suspect Identified in April 6 Subway Restaurant Robbery

Champaign Police have identified 31-year-old Steven E. Johnson as the primary suspect in an armed robbery that took place Friday, April 6, 2018, at Subway Restaurant, located at 1101 N. Mattis Ave.

Restaurant staff reported that on last Friday, at approximately 1:21 PM, the suspect entered the business and demanded money while implying a weapon.  An undetermined amount of currency was given before the suspect fled from the restaurant on foot.  No injuries were reported.

Multiple Crime Stoppers tips and investigative detail led to Johnson’s identification. Today, an arrest warrant was issued for Johnson, for the offense of Aggravated Robbery. Bond on the warrant is set at $100,000.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or Steven E. Johnson’s whereabouts is encouraged to call police. Johnson is described as a White male, 5’9”, approximately 170 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes.  He was last seen wearing blue jean pants and a dark grey or green pouch hoodie with a neon green shirt underneath.
