Arrest Made in Shooting Investigation – 2300 Block of W. Springfield Ave.

Yesterday evening at approximately 7:08 PM, Champaign Police responded to the 2300 Block of W. Springfield Ave., where a19-year-old male victim had been shot and suffered a serious gunshot wound. Police have continued the investigation into this incident, leading to the identification of a person believed responsible for last night’s shooting.

The suspect, identified as Cameron D. Ross, a 25 year-old-male from Champaign, was taken into custody today at approximately 1:40 PM near the 2100 block of W. White St. A firearm and suspected narcotics were recovered from Ross at the time of his arrest.

Ross was ultimately transported to the Champaign County Correctional Center for the offenses of Armed Violence, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The preliminary investigation of this case continues to suggest that yesterday’s shooting is an isolated incident and not related to other recent area-shootings.
