Police Investigate Shooting – 2300 Block of W. Springfield Ave.

This evening, at approximately 7:08 PM, Champaign Police responded to the 2300 Block of W. Springfield Ave., for a reported shooting. Upon arrival to the scene, police located a 19-year-old male victim suffering from a serious gunshot wound.  The victim was immediately transported to an area hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment.

Initial information disclosed that the victim was walking northbound on Kenwood Rd., when approached by a vehicle.  An argument ensued between the victim and an occupant of the vehicle, when multiple rounds were fired, with one round striking the victim.

The preliminary investigation suggests that no information is present to believe that tonight’s shooting to be in any way related to recent area-shootings, but is an isolated incident.

No additional information is available at this time. Champaign Police Detectives are processing the scene and interviewing potential witnesses.  Anyone with information regarding the shooting is urged to contact the Champaign Police Investigations Division by calling 217-351-4545.
