Police Investigate Shootings – 2000 Block of Cynthia Drive and 500 Block of W. University Avenue

This evening, at approximately 9:07 PM, Champaign Police responded to the 2000 Block of Cynthia Dr., after receiving reports of multiple shots fired. Preliminary investigation reveals that a 25-year-old male victim was sitting in a vehicle when he was shot and subsequently transferred to an area hospital for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

At 9:20 PM, multiple gunshots were fired in the 500 Block of W. University Ave., as a basketball game dispersed at Central High School. Preliminary reports reveal that an unknown suspect(s) fired shots from an area east of the school, injuring three individuals: a 15-year-old female student of Danville High School; a 17-year-old female of Champaign; and an 18-year-old female student of Parkland College. The victims were transported to an area hospital for what appear to be non-life threatening injuries. In addition to the personal injuries, police are aware that multiple property damage occurred as a result of the gunfire.

It is not yet known if the shootings are related. Champaign Police are actively investigating these incidents and are seeking information from the public regarding both of the shooting incidents.  Anyone with information is urged to contact the Champaign Police Investigations Division at 217-351-4545.

Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
