Police Investigate Overnight Shooting – 900 Block of Pomona Drive

This morning, at approximately 2:57AM, Champaign Police Officers responded to the 900 Block of Pomona Dr. after receiving multiple reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, police identified a 25-year-old female victim who had been shot during an argument with a nearby resident. The victim was transported to an area hospital for what appears to be a non-life threatening gunshot wound, and the offender, 43-year-old Alva Thomas was arrested on preliminary charges of Aggravated Discharge with a Firearm. Additional charges may be forthcoming, pending review by the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Thomas came out of his home to confront the victim, whom he reports was being loud.  An argument ensued, with Thomas firing two shots—one of which struck the victim in the abdomen. Thomas remained on scene following the shooting and was taken to the Champaign County Jail.
