Improving Pedestrian Safety on Campus
New housing units have added to the number of pedestrians passing through the intersection of Sixth Street and Healey Street. This is an area where there are already numerous inexperienced and distracted drivers. In response to a group of students asking that the City take action to improve pedestrian safety at this intersection, the City will soon install hi-visibility crosswalks and “Stop Here For Pedestrians” signs.
The crosswalk markings on the east leg of the intersection will be refreshed, and new markings will be added to the other three legs. In addition, a stop bar and “Stop Here For Pedestrians” signs will be added to southbound Sixth Street, just north of the intersection.
