Police Ask for Witness Support in August 3 Homicide Investigation

On August 3, 2017 at approximately 8:10 PM, Champaign Police Officers responded to the area of Elm St. & Beardsley St. after receiving a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, police found 53-year-old Gus Edwards who suffered from a gunshot wound.  Edwards would later succumb to his injuries hours later at Carle Hospital.

Champaign Police Detectives continue to actively investigate this incident. The investigation has revealed through multiple sources that several individuals were present at the scene when the murder occurred. Detectives are requesting to speak with anyone who was present at the scene and will arrange to speak privately with anyone with information about the shooting.
