Champaign Police Conduct Shooting Investigations

On August 11, 2017 at approximately 2:18 AM, Champaign Police responded to the 2500 block of W. Springfield in regards to a shots fired call.  Officers located a 23-year-old male gunshot victim from Champaign laying on the ground outside an apartment building.  Officers provided medical assistance to the victim while waiting for an ambulance.  The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury.

Officer conducted a preliminary investigation and learned that the shooting took place in the parking lot of the Countrybrook Apartments.  The victim was involved in a physical altercation when gunfire was heard.  The victim realized he had been shot and fled from the altercation.  At this time, no further suspect information will be released.

Earlier, at 9:04 PM on August 10, 2017, Champaign Police responded to the 2000 block of Ola Dr. after residents reported hearing gunfire.  Officers located several shell casings in the street, and interviewed witnesses in the area that reported hearing several gunshots.  Witness information describes the suspect as a black male wearing a black baseball cap, and was an occupant of a black colored Chevrolet Tahoe SUV which left the scene.

Minutes later at 9:11 PM, Champaign Police responded to an additional report of gunfire in the 2400 block of W. Springfield Ave. Preliminary information provided to officers suggest the suspect and vehicle descriptions are similar to the descriptions provided on Ola Dr. incident.

It is unknown if these shooting investigations are related.  These incidents remain under investigation and the Champaign Police Department asks that anyone with information relating to these incidents to contact the Champaign Police Department Investigations Division at 217-351-4545.
