Hopscotch Bakery Opening is Sweet News for Small Business Incentive Program

Hopscotch Bakery and Market had their soft opening on July 14. Hopscotch is a woman-owned business registered in the City of Champaign’s Small Business Incentive Program. Business owner Kaya Tate showed patrons her new store and offered samples during the open house. Hopscotch officially opened its doors to the public on July 19. They sell desserts, grab and go lunch items, local crafts, grocery items, and custom orders.

Along with program participation, the City Council approved a Special Use Permit for Hopscotch to operate the new bakery which is located at 802 W John Street. A Special Use Permit was required to allow a commercial use in a Single Family Residential District. The building was previously occupied by a dietary food store & vitamin store.
