Police Seek Assistance to Identify Sexual Assault Suspect

On Tuesday June 27, Champaign Police responded to Kaufman Lake, located at 2702 W. Springfield Ave, after receiving a report that an assault had just occurred.

The on-scene investigation reveals that at approximately 5:25 PM that evening, a female victim had been near the Lake’s walking path when she was approached by an unknown suspect who physically and sexually assaulted the victim. Police are asking for the public’s help to identify and bring arrest to the individual responsible for this crime.

The suspect is described as a Black male in his 20’s, approximate height of 5’8”, with a thin build and medium-brown complexion.  The suspect was described as wearing a black shirt and a pair of green lens sunglasses at the time of the assault.  At left, a facial composite has been depicted based upon the victim’s testimony, to help in the identification and arrest of the suspect.

Champaign Police Detectives ask that anyone with information regarding this crime, as well as those who may have been in the area of Kaufman Lake at the time of the assault, to please contact the Investigations Division at (217)351-4545.

Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for this crime.
