2017 Service Together Achieves Results (STAR) Awards

NSD Staff in partnership with the Neighborhood Services Advisory Board, WCIA 3, and Busey Bank sponsored the eighth annual STAR Awards Ceremony on April 27. The 2017 STAR Awards kicked off with a networking reception which provided an exciting  opportunity for neighborhood leaders, residents, and, volunteers to network with STAR honorees, key City Staff, and elected officials. A quartet from the Central High Jazz Band provided background music for the reception.

In addition to the STAR award honorees, the awards ceremony provided an opportunity to introduce three new community initiatives that will be implemented over the coming years. Dr. Sola the new Superintendent for Unit 4 Schools introduced herself and presented information on the 220 million dollar facilities improvement project that will get underway this summer.  Tracy Parsons from the City of Champaign Community Relations Office shared information on the CU First Start program designed to reduce gun violence in our community.  Developer Jim Roberts, AHDVS LLC presented site plans for the Bristol Place redevelopment.
