Chester Street and Water Street Improvements Project

As part of the City’s Chester Street and Water Street Improvements Project, the concrete pavement on Chester Street, from First Street to the railroad viaduct will be rehabilitated. The City’s contractor for the project, Feutz Contractors, will begin work on Monday, May 8, weather permitting.

Beginning on Monday, May 8, Chester Street will be reduced to one westbound lane from First Street to Water Street. Eastbound traffic in that block will not be allowed. Parking on either side of Chester Street, within those limits, will also be prohibited. On Monday, May 15, Chester Street will be entirely closed to traffic.

Please pay close attention to construction signs, traffic control devices and marked detours. Please do not park on the street near the construction site or in areas that are posted “No Parking.” Please proceed cautiously through construction zones and use alternate routes whenever possible. The contractor will attempt to complete construction activities as soon as possible to minimize any inconvenience to the residents, businesses and patrons in the areas of construction.

The City of Champaign would like to thank you for your cooperation and patience during this construction season. A map showing this location along with all 2017 City Engineering Division projects can be found at champaignil.gov/pwd; click on “Construction Map” under “Timely Topics.”
