Youth Police Academy

Open to youth ages 12-18, the Youth Police Academy (YPA) introduces participants to the field of law enforcement and allows youth and police officers to build stronger, positive relationships.  Students will attend a mock police academy involving lectures, demonstrations, role-play scenarios and team building exercises. YPA offers the following courses:

BasicJune 27-30, 2017, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., open to students who have completed 6th through 8th Grade.

Advanced: July 18-21, 2017, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., open to current high school students.

Crime Scene Investigation: August 1-4, 2017, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., open to students 6th-12th grade, *Max: 10 participants

All Youth Police Academy sessions are held at the ILEAS Training Center, 1701 E. Main St, Urbana.  Registration is free and open through May 1, or until spots fill.

Citizen Police Academy

Offered in cooperation by law enforcement agencies in Champaign County, the Citizen Police Academy’s goal is to build relationships, strengthen communication, and reduce crime in our communities. Participants receive instruction on topics such as crime prevention, community-based policing, use of force, firearms orientation, crime scene investigation, and more!

Classes held Thursdays, April 20 – June 22, 6- 9PM at the Police Training Institute, 1004 S. Fourth St, Champaign. Registration is free and open until spots fill.
