The Champaign Police Department joined forces with other law enforcement agencies and highway safety partners throughout the state of Illinois during the winter holiday season to educate citizens on the impact of drinking and driving and to help make the roadways safer. During the enforcement detail, police issued the following citations:
- Seatbelt Citations – 5
- Operating Uninsured Motor Vehicle – 2
- Cell Phone Citations – 2
Although the campaign has ended, officers will continue to enforce seat belt laws year round. Citizens are encouraged to buckle up in both front and back seats, day and night, every trip, every time.
The enforcement campaign was made possible by federal highway safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
