Champaign County First Springfield Trip

On Wednesday, November 30, 2016 representatives of the City of Champaign, City of Urbana, Village of Savoy, Village of Mahomet, Village of St. Joseph, Champaign County, Champaign County Chamber of Commerce, and Champaign County Economic Development Corporation traveled together to Springfield to advocate for a number of priority projects to benefit Champaign County. The City of Champaign was represented by Bruce Knight and T.J. Blakeman.

  • Projects discussed included:
  • high speed rail
  • improved passenger rail
  • the I-57/74 Interchange
  • Prospect Avenue from Windsor Road to Curtis Road
  • Mahomet Sangamon River Trail
  • South Mahomet Roadway Connection Project
  • Village of Savoy Prairie Fields Trail Phase 2
  • Florida Avenue Extension Project

The group met with top officials from Illinois Department of Transportation, Department of Natural Resources, and Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Additionally. State Representatives Adam Brown, Bill Mitchell and Chad Hayes and Senators Scott Bennett and Chapin Rose were present. The meetings were very productive and provided opportunities to discuss priorities, funding opportunities and to build relationships with key Springfield decision makers. The group finished the day meeting with State Treasurer Mike Frerichs as pictured below.
