Code Compliance Staff Contacts Kraft/Heinz

On Friday, October 21, 2016 Neighborhood Services received a citizen complaint concerning a foul smelling odor in the 1300 & 1400 blocks of W. Columbia.  The citizen believed the odor was being emitted from the Kraft/Heinz plant located on W. Bradley Avenue. The complainant continued to state that the odor was so offensive that it caused headaches and nausea.

Property Maintenance Inspector Kim Burnett investigated the 1300 block of W. Columbia and observed a foul odor to be present that smelled like sewage.  The odor continued south as far as W. Springfield.  Burnett called the Operational Risk Manager at Kraft/Heinz and left a message regarding the odor complaint.

On Monday, October 24, 2016 the same citizen complained of the foul smell.  Burnett called and left a second message with the Operational Risk Manager and sent an email.  Burnett received a return call that day to inform her that the issue was a snag with the sewage system’s tank (Kraft/Heinz has their own) and their waste material hauler.  Kraft/Heinz had been in contact with the hauler and hoped that by end of the day the tank would be emptied.  On Tuesday, October 25, 2016 Kim went back to the 1300 & 1400 block of W Columbia and continued south to W Springfield and found that the foul odor was no longer present.
