Residential Fire – 1308 Sunset Drive

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 1308 Sunset Drive, Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at 3:04 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews reported smoke coming from the rear of the residence.  Suppression efforts began immediately.

Thirteen (13) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately twenty-seven (27) emergency response personnel responded to the call from Champaign Fire and Arrow Ambulance.  The occupant woke and smelled smoke in the residence.  Fire crews entered the residence, and worked to extinguish the fire.  The fire was brought under control at 3:32 p.m.  There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.  The total damage estimate is $65,000 structure and $17,000 contents.  The fire originated in the kitchen.  Investigators continue to work on the scene to determine the cause.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan.  Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
