Yesterday, at approximately 6:50 AM, Champaign Police apprehended three suspects in the 300 block of Kenwood in connection with area burglaries to motor vehicles (BMVs) and possession of stolen vehicles.

Arrested was 19-year-old Malikk H. Dillon of Champaign, along with two juveniles, ages 14 and 15, who were found in possession of three stolen vehicles and stolen property from previous BMVs.

At approximately 6:27 AM yesterday, Champaign Police responded to a vehicle burglary report in the area of 4500 Copper Ridge.  The victim of this burglary observed three suspects, believed to have just burglarized his vehicles, flee in what was later learned to be a stolen Volvo.  The victim was able to make out the license plate number and called police.

About 25 minutes later, officers located the Volvo in the 300 block of Kenwood, where the suspect, Malikk Dillon, was seen removing items from the vehicle.  Officers also located a stolen Jeep and a stolen Honda van with two juveniles hiding inside. These juveniles were also found to be in possession of stolen property from previous motor vehicle burglaries.

Dillon was transported to the Champaign County Jail and charged with Burglary to Motor Vehicles and Possession of Stolen Property.  The two juveniles were transported to the Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Possession of Stolen Property.

Residents are reminded that police have seen a county-wide increase in both residential and motor vehicle burglaries.  Since June 1, 2016 Champaign Police have arrested 32 separate individuals for 21 motor vehicle burglary cases.  Of these 32 arrests, 22 have been juveniles.
