National Night Out Celebration

The City of Champaign welcomes the community to join us in celebrating National Night Out on Tuesday, August 2, 2016. The public is invited to join in a community-wide celebration at Beardsley Park (1006 N Walnut Street, Champaign) from 4-8 p.m. This free event is sponsored by the Champaign Park District in partnership with the Beardsley Park Neighborhood Association.

National Night Out is a designated evening when communities across America come together to take a stand against crime. To celebrate this nationwide event, residents are encouraged to lock their doors, turn on their porch lights, and spend the evening outdoors with their neighbors. The City of Champaign has also partnered with the Champaign Park District and registered neighborhood groups to host events throughout the community. Neighborhood events will include block parties, entertainment, Champaign Police Department engagement, demonstrations, and more.

National Night Out is designed to generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit, and foster positive police-community relationships.

Neighborhood groups and organizations registered with the City of Champaign were given an opportunity to apply for grant funds to host their own National Night Out celebrations in their neighborhoods. Three groups successfully completed grant applications for the event funds this year and will hold neighborhood celebrations that run concurrently with the community-wide celebration. Residents should check with their local neighborhood watch group for information about neighborhood events.
