Vehicle Collision at 507 E. Clark

On June 16, Property Maintenance Inspector Cliff Peete responded to a call from the Fire Department regarding a vehicle that accidentally ran into the building at 507 E. Clark Street. Upon his arrival, Peete met with Building Safety Supervisor Larry Happ, who was on scene with the property owner and Structural Engineer assessing the condition of the building. Happ determined that the damaged exterior wall was not load-bearing, which could have caused major structural deficiencies to the building. The tenant residing in the apartment was out of town and will be relocated to another unit. Building Maintenance for the apartment complex was also on scene preparing to secure the opening. The individual who drove into the building was not injured and was there discussing the incident with a Police Officer. Peete will continue to monitor and work with the property owner until the building is repaired.
