Police Investigate Shooting – 1000 Block of N. James St.

On Sunday, May 15, 2016, at approximately 2:18 A.M., Champaign Police Officers responded to the area of the 1000 block of N. James St. after receiving multiple reports of gunfire in the area.

Upon arrival, officers located evidence of a shooting and two victims. The first victim located at the scene was a 23-year-old Champaign man that sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound. The second victim, a 22-year-old Champaign man who was transported to Carle Hospital, ultimately died from his injuries.

Information concerning this incident is being developed and Champaign Police Detectives are currently processing the scene and interviewing witnesses. Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the Champaign Police Department Investigations Division at 217-351-4545.
