Police Arrest Sixth Suspect in Ashley C. Gibson Investigation

On May 13, 2016, at approximately 10:00 AM, Champaign Police Detectives, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested 25-year-old Deundrea Weatherspoon of Champaign—the sixth suspect Police have been looking for in the death investigation of Ashley C. Gibson.

Police developed information that Weatherspoon was staying at a residence in Oakwood Trace Apartments, Champaign.  When contacted by police today, Weatherspoon surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.

Weatherspoon and the five other suspects have been arrested and charged for the offense of Dismembering a Human Body, a Class X Felony.

Champaign Police Deputy Chief Troy Daniels shared, “it has been our priority since the beginning of this incident to ensure a thorough investigation to help bring answers for Ashley’s family and for our community.  The search for Weatherspoon has been ongoing daily. We’re pleased to have everyone in custody and can focus on the remainder of the investigation.”
