Celebrate National Library Week – Explore Your Star Library!

In celebration of National Library Week (April 9-16, 2016), the Champaign Public Library encourages community members to “explore your star library” and discover the valuable resources it offers. The Champaign Public Library has been awarded “star library” status by Library Journal since 2008. Its most recent four-star designation in November 2015 places it among the top 3% of public libraries nationwide.

The celebration kicks off with screening of “Plight of the Monarch” and Q&A with filmmakers Kirby and Cindy Pringle on Saturday, April 9, at 2 p.m. Free seed packets for creating butterfly gardens will be handed out.

A week full of events for all ages is planned, including a Latin jazz concert by Tito Carrillo, a knitting extravaganza, and a Homeschool Fair for parents. On Saturday, April 16, there will be a free photo booth set up in the lobby from 1 to 3 p.m.

Popular rental books, movies and other items will be FREE on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, April 9–11

Champaign Public Library cardholders who check out items between April 9 and April 16 will be automatically entered into a drawing for a Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 (64gb). One entry for every item checked out—the more someone checks out, the more chances they’ll have to win. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, April 19.

Library enthusiasts are encouraged to share what they appreciate about the library (“I love the library because…”) on social media tagged with #MyStarLibrary and #LibrariesTransform.
