Street Crimes Task Force Arrests Urbana Man for Weapons Offense

On March 3, 2016, the Street Crimes Task Force (SCTF), with the assistance of the METRO SWAT Team, arrested 28-year-old Pierre Renfro of Urbana, following a court authorized search warrant for a residence in the 1000 block of Austin Dr., Urbana.

During the search, officers recovered several items of evidence, to include:

  • One rifle complete with folding stock
  • Ammunition
  • One 12-gauge shotgun
  • A digital scale
  • Packaging material commonly associated with drug sales

Police also located and seized a vehicle parked in the immediate area that was previously reported as stolen.

During the month of February, police received several reports of gun shots and information regarding an armed subject in the vicinity of the 1000 block of Austin Dr. In response, the SCTF initiated an investigation and developed information on Renfro, who was unlawfully in possession of several firearms.

Renfro is currently on parole, and was transported to the Champaign County Correctional Center on preliminary charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon.

Although an arrest has been made, the investigation into this incident is ongoing. SCTF officers ask that anyone with information related to this incident contact the Champaign Police Department Investigations Division at 217-351-4545.
