A fire occurred at a vacant house in the 300 block of West Maple St. on January 11, 2016. The Neighborhood Code Compliance Division (NCCD) cited the property as being open to intrusion three times during the previous 30 days. The owner of the house lives out of state and was unable to secure the property. NCCD staff ensured the property was secured each time, but an individual or individuals were able to keep gaining entry into the property. NCCD staff has since secured the first floor and basement of the property, while working with the property owner and mortgage holder to get the house demolished.
