Champaign Police Make Arrest in Recent Commercial Burglaries

On November 29, 2015 at approximately 4:47 AM, Champaign Police Officers located three individuals in downtown Champaign that matched the description of individuals captured on security video burglarizing an area-business.  One of the suspects, wearing the same clothing and carrying the same draw-string backpack as seen in the security video, was recognized by one of our officers.  After preliminary interview and investigations, officers located stolen property and the suspects admitted their involvement in burglarizing several businesses in Champaign.

18-year-old Mason Edinger, 19-year-old John Edwards, and 22-year-old Drew Knight, all of Champaign, were arrested and formally charged with multiple counts of Burglary.  The offenders burglarized Joe’s Brewery, Radio Maria, and Bacaro, and are suspects in additional commercial burglaries in the City of Urbana.  Each of these businesses reported that a window was broken and money stolen from the cash register.  The offenders also stole a delivery package containing a Phillips Norelco Razor from the front porch of an unknown residence.

Champaign Police continue to investigate these incidents.  Anyone with information about these or related crimes are encouraged to contact the Champaign Police Department at    (217) 351-4545, or Crime Stoppers at (217) 373-8477. Callers can also submit anonymous tips online to Crime Stoppers at www.373tips.com or by texting “CCTIP” plus the information to 274637 (CRIMES).
